Lost and Found: Mrs Noah

Moving onto the story of the wife of Noah... the book called her Mrs. Noah. Funny how the author described this chapter as " A woman can really get lost even in a good marriage." I would like to think she had the perfect marriage and perfect status in society. She gave birth to three sons, which in Noah's generation, is the best thing that could ever happen to a family. Ancient culture gauges a woman's success by the number of sons she bore. Yet she was lost.

In addition, I do not remember the Bible mentioning Noah as having another wife. Her marriage then is a monogamous relationship which defines Noah's excellent morals and noble character whilst he lived in a generation that so grieved the heart of God. Hence, Noah has provided a loving family climate to Mrs. Noah.

Yet she was lost.

Not only that. We don't even know her name. Just like we do not know most women who might not become a part of our journey. Throughout the Bible, Mrs Noah's life story remained unwritten. Just like most of our stories will remain distant from written history. In the midst of a crises of global proportions- the Great Flood - she remained obscure and insignificant. Just like how we feel at times.

I would like to think she was a strong ezer for Noah. Or else Noah would have given up in the face of immense ridicule and hurtful prejudice he suffered from his neighbors. And then there would have been no ark. No starting over for man. No second chance. Just imagine.

That's what's it all about. Mrs Noah was unnamed, seemingly unimportant and perhaps, of no consequence. But then she mattered to God.

Just like you and me.

God said "It is not good for man to be alone. I will make a helper (ezer) suitable for him." Believe that!
