so what does a mother of 3 talk about?
1 Samuel 1: 20 She named him Samuel, [c] saying, "Because I asked the LORD for him."...
27 I prayed for this child, and the LORD has granted me what I asked of him. 28 So now I give him to the LORD. For his whole life he will be given over to the LORD." And he worshipped the LORD there.
I never really get Hannah. She suffered infertility, experienced shame because of it, hounded the LORD most of her life to have children, and then she experienced embarrassment again when she was suspected of being an alcoholic because of the way she prayed.! And when she finally bore a son, she vowed to give him up and indeed made true on her promise when she left Samuel with Eli the Priest at the age of 4 ! Four is a very young age when mothers look forward to see their own children's developmental milestones, like the heart-wrenching first day at school, the first school play or musicale, and so many more events that a parent records on video and in the deepest pockets of their hearts. Moments to cherish forever.
I can never understand her. And think about this, the Bible talks about her joyful countenance at that time. No sobbing, no hysterics just plain and simple courage when she and her son walked up to the temple. She was a true ezer. A powerful and prayerful princess warrior of God. Wow, and wow.
As for me, will I be able to come up to a "Hannah Standard"?. You bet I'll try with all my heart and strength, but really I am not sure if ever I can be completely what she stood for. I do hope in this lifetime. But with God's strength I will. I am trying...
