The book of Jonah tells of a place called Tarshish. I will not be diving into a discussion about this as I am not a theologian nor Bible scholar. As the book relates, God calls Jonah to proclaim judgment to Nineveh, but Jonah resists and attempts to flee. He goes to Joppa and boards a ship bound for Tarshish. Tarshish then is in the opposite direction of Nineveh.
So my "tarshish" would be anywhere outside God's plans and purposes for me. It is a place where I enjoy my rebellion, it is perhaps a cherished sin in my heart, or a part of my life which I do not want to surrender to the Lord, or a command from God which I donot particularly like to follow because it is difficult, or painful or simply beacuse I am disobedient.
This post is too fragile for me to list my tarshish(es) but lest I become too complacent, I shall go down on my knees and ask forgiveness from my Father for the many times I have rebelled and for the many areas in my life which takes me away from His Presence and the sins which I enjoy hiding from Him. Son of David, have mercy on us!
Praise Him, we have a God Whose Mercy equals His Judgment.
