arrows by day and pestilence in the night

Funny I should be mentioning Psalm 91 and it is September 11 today...

I'm onto 4-5 books at the moment and there's one about being a Christian in the marketplace, it says when Jesus was talking about " the salt of the earth" and "light of the world" - He was not commanding, or telling us what to DO but He was stating a fact, and our "saltiness" and "light-ful" is BEING, not doing. The Hebrew meaning in this context - the word "you" is an emphatic word and literally it says YOU are "the ONLY salt of the earth" and "ONLY light of the world",

So let me talk about that Sunday when the pastor talked about the injustice of life; when things that are happening to you doesn't seem fair, I 'm sure this is so common among us and whether the magnitude of events around us are extremely unfortunate or just slightly bad, it still seems as if God in His Inexplicable Wisdom is allowing misfortunes and trials to come our way.

Faith -being the salt and light - is translated into action. It is acid-tested during adversity.

Just like the global economic crises happening at the moment, that man with his brilliance and advanced technologies was unable to predict its coming, more to the point, no one was prepared for it. They said this has not happened before even during the Depression.

Makes me think, the psalmist is perhaps referring to this kind of adverse fortune when he wrote Psam 91. He said in verse 5:

Fear nothing—not wild wolves in the night,
not flying arrows in the day,
Not disease that prowls through the darkness,
not disaster that erupts at high noon

Nighttimes are when evil accidents are most terrible and least avoidable. In addition to darkness is that the idea of wild wolves can certainly create immense fear in us, What are flying arrows by day? Pestilence, or any such destructive calamity; are frequently called God's arrows. And there is no escaping from it. Not even the daylight can shield you.

Is there a purpose to it all? Is there a way out of this terrible loss? Yes! He said it in the first 2 words.!

Fear nothing.

Isn't it amazing how the Psalmist turned things around. Whilst he was talking about doom and destruction, in the same breath, he was saying in the last verses of Psalm 91 (14-16) (Message version)

14-16 "If you'll hold on to me for dear life," says God,
"I'll get you out of any trouble.
I'll give you the best of care
if you'll only get to know and trust me.
Call me and I'll answer, be at your side in bad times;
I'll rescue you, then throw you a party.
I'll give you a long life,
give you a long drink of salvation!"

I am totally attending that party!
