it's been awhile since my last post, I have been kept busy by countless conundrums in my day, bewilderment beyond explanation that comes non-stop!
but...I am based on shigionoth! (not knowing but still being favoured by the Lord) (see book of Habakkuk. )I heard this word in a conference a couple of years ago that moved the entire audience numbering 20000!and it stuck with me ever since. I cannot stop mentioning it in conversations and emails whenever asked about making sense out of life. All people, young and old alike, have innumerable questions about making heads and tails of what's happening in this upside down world in an unpside down life, and then trials come and you end up hanging upside down all over again!
the book of Job mentions words describing perplexity in the midst of insurmountable odds, Job did not understand but his confusion brought him to his knees in worship and awe to the Only One who can impart wisdom, understanding and good counsel to man.
please allow me to quote these scholars...
Frederick Buechner writes that we all live "somewhere between the darkness and the light,"
".... that times of darkness can often be times of growth. The times when I have been wrenched with grief have taught me something more about the power of love. The times when I have struggled with uncertainty over the direction of my life have taught me something new about the power of surrender, surrendering to something larger than myself. "(The darkness)," writes Peter Fleck, "is the feeding ground of our souls, just like the deep, dark growth of a tree’s roots."
...a time of waiting in the darkness. The time of waiting can be a time of growth. It can be a time of listening, listening to the language of the heart. I believe that each of us carries a prayer in our heart. Regardless of your theological stance, regardless of what you believe or don’t believe about God or prayer, there is a prayer in your heart. This prayer is the essence of your very humanity. It is the prayer only you can utter, the prayer that expresses your deepest hunger, your most fervent hope. This is a time for listening in the darkness to the prayer in your heart.
It is a time of waiting, a time for listening in the darkness. Listen. Listen to those voices of the world that cry out in need. Listen to the hungers of your soul. Listen to the prayer in your heart. Listen for the "still small voice of love eternal" telling you that you are loved as a Child of God.....(c)2003, Jan K. Nielsen.
for me it is that prayer that cries out to escape the muddle and fog!
